Brewing & Infusion Guide

Hot Tea • Iced Tea • Cold Brew • Decoctions • Botanical Infusions

Your Sempre Naturalis blend was thoughtfully formulated to create an intentional experience in every cup or glass.

Because herbs, roots, flowers, fruit, and tea leaves prepare differently, follow the brewing method printed on your product label for the best results.

Before You Begin

Choose the brewing method listed on your product label, then follow the corresponding instructions below.

Always use fresh water, clean brewing equipment, and strain your finished tea or infusion before serving.

Hot Tea

Standard Herbal Infusion

  1. Place 1 teaspoon of loose tea into a tea infuser, reusable tea bag, or cup.

  2. Add 8 ounces of heated water.

  3. Cover the cup while the tea steeps.

  4. Steep for the amount of time listed for your blend.

  5. Strain and enjoy.

Covering the tea while it steeps helps preserve the aromatic qualities of the herbs.

Adjusting Your Cup

For a lighter cup, use slightly less tea or shorten the steeping time.

For a stronger cup, add more tea rather than steeping excessively. Oversteeping blends containing true tea leaves may create a bitter or astringent flavor.

Iced Tea

Single-Serving Iced Tea

  1. Use 2 teaspoons of tea for every 8 ounces of water.

  2. Add heated water and steep according to the instructions for your blend.

  3. Strain the tea.

  4. Pour over a full glass of ice.

  5. Add additional cold water if desired.

Brewing the tea at double strength helps preserve its flavor as the ice melts.

Pitcher Preparation

Multiply the single-serving measurement by the number of servings you would like to prepare.

Brew the tea at double strength, strain, and add it to a pitcher filled with ice. Refrigerate until ready to serve.

Cold Brew Tea

Cold brewing creates a smooth, refreshing cup with a softer flavor profile.

  1. Add 1 tablespoon of loose tea to 16 ounces of cold water.

  2. Cover and refrigerate for 8–12 hours.

  3. Strain thoroughly.

  4. Serve chilled or over ice.

Delicate floral blends may need less time, while fruit, root, and robust tea blends may benefit from a longer infusion.

Keep cold-brewed tea refrigerated throughout preparation and storage.

Decoctions

A decoction is used for blends containing dense roots, bark, seeds, or other firm botanical ingredients.

  1. Add 1 tablespoon of the blend to approximately 12 ounces of water.

  2. Bring the water to a gentle simmer.

  3. Cover and simmer for 15–20 minutes.

  4. Remove from heat.

  5. Strain and enjoy.

Add additional water after simmering if needed.

Always follow the blend-specific instructions when a decoction method is required.

Sun-Inspired Tea

Capture the nostalgic ritual of sun tea using a safer hot-brew preparation method.

Preparation

  1. Add 1 tablespoon of loose tea to a heat-safe container.

  2. Heat 16 ounces of fresh water to the temperature recommended for your individual blend.

  3. Pour the heated water over the tea.

  4. Cover and steep according to the instructions for your individual blend.

  5. Strain thoroughly.

  6. Allow the tea to cool briefly, then refrigerate promptly.

  7. Serve chilled or over ice in your favorite sunlit space.

Pitcher Preparation

Multiply the tea and water measurements by the number of servings desired.

After steeping, strain the tea into a clean pitcher and refrigerate promptly. Add ice, citrus, herbs, fruit, or sweetener when serving.

Storage

Keep prepared tea refrigerated and enjoy within three days. Use a clean, sanitized container and discard the tea if it develops an unusual odor, appearance, texture, or flavor. Iowa State Extension similarly recommends refrigerating prepared tea and consuming it within three days.

Why “Sun-Inspired”?

Traditional sun brewing may not heat the water sufficiently for consistent preparation. This method preserves the nostalgic experience while preparing the tea with properly heated water.

Cocktail Infusions

Infusion times vary depending on the fruit, herbs, spices, and alcohol used. Longer is not always better—overinfusing may create bitter or overpowering flavors.

Always use the recommended amount and type of spirit listed for the individual blend.

  1. Place the botanical infusion blend in a clean, sealable container.

  2. Add the recommended amount of alcohol.

  3. Seal the container securely.

  4. Infuse for the amount of time listed for your blend.

  5. Shake or gently turn the container occasionally.

  6. Strain thoroughly before serving.

  7. Serve according to the suggested cocktail preparation.

Alcohol-Free Infusions

Sempre Naturalis botanical infusion blends may also be prepared as alcohol-free mocktails and specialty beverages.

Depending on the blend, suitable alcohol-free bases may include:

  • Alcohol-free spirits

  • Sparkling water

  • Still water

  • Lemonade

  • Fruit juice

  • Chilled tea

  • Coconut water

Preparation

  1. Place the botanical blend in a clean, sealable container.

  2. Add the alcohol-free base recommended for your blend.

  3. Seal and refrigerate while infusing.

  4. Infuse for the amount of time listed for your blend.

  5. Strain thoroughly.

  6. Add sparkling ingredients after straining unless the individual instructions state otherwise.

  7. Serve chilled or over ice.

Alcohol-free infusions should remain refrigerated during preparation and storage.

Creating Your Ritual

Brewing tea is more than preparing a beverage. It is an opportunity to pause, breathe, and reconnect with yourself.

Choose a favorite cup, allow the botanicals time to fully infuse, and create a moment that feels restorative and intentional.

Sip slowly. Notice the aroma, flavor, warmth, and color of your blend.

Storage

Store dry blends in a cool, dry place away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.

Keep the package securely closed between uses.

Prepared tea and alcohol-free infusions should be refrigerated.
